"Still my go-to for kanji"
I’ve used a few different apps over the years, and this is still one I really like, especially for learning kanji. It’s not the best if you’re trying to work on grammar, so I wouldn’t rely on it for everything, but for kanji practice it’s been great. Still love it.

"I keep opening it every day"
The levels. The reviews. It all makes kanji feel like a game. Weirdly fun. I actually want to study now, which never used to happen lol...

"Good overall, but the review pileup feels preventable"
I’ve had a good experience overall, but the reviews can really start to pile up sometimes. It gets a bit overwhelming when everything builds up at once, and it feels like something that could be preventable with a better system or reminders in place.

"Super easy to use"
I found it really easy to use. The layout is clean and simple, so I didn’t have to spend time figuring out where everything was
"Pretty good, just wish it had a bit more"
I’ve been using wanikani and overall I like it. Being able to tweak some settings and add scripts is definitely helpful, especially when something doesn’t quite fit how I want to study. I just wish more of that customization was built in instead of having to rely on extra stuff, because sometimes it feels like it’s almost there but not fully... Still, it’s a solid tool and I’m happy with it for the most part
"Userscripts don’t feel as supported as I expected"
I’ve used a few tools with userscript support before, and this one feels a bit less maintained in comparison. The API docs seem outdated, so I found myself guessing or digging around more than I’d like. It’s not unusable, but it definitely feels like userscripts aren’t getting much attention right now

"Pretty clear audio overall"
I assumed right away the audio would be easy to follow, and it was. The pronunciation sounds clear to me and makes it helpful
"Surprisingly decent on my phone"
I used the mobile site on my phone and it works well overall. Everything loads and does what it’s supposed to, though it feels a little cramped at times, like the buttons are all fighting for personal space.

"Some of the kanji answers felt off"
I tried it out hoping it would help me check kanji meanings, and for the most part it was okay. But this is where it got annoying: a few of the answers just didn’t feel right, or seemed kind of off compared to what I expected. I’m not 100% sure if they were actually wrong, but it made me second-guess the results

"Not as beginner-friendly as I expected"
I found it confusing at the beginning, especially coming in with zero Japanese basics. It made me wonder a bit about the quality of the beginner guidance, since it doesn’t really ease you in as much as I hoped

"Perfect Pace… Until the Reviews Attack"
The lessons move at a really nice speed and don’t dump a mountain of stuff on you all at once, which I appreciate a lot. But wow, if you ignore reviews for even a second, they suddenly multiply like it’s the end of the world. Overall though, the learning pace feels really manageable.

"Kanji that actually stuck with me"
I used this for a few months, i’m surprised by how much kanji I still remember years later. The small win for me was being able to recognize a few characters on a menu recently without looking them up, which felt great.

"The SRS timing really does the job"
I’ve been using WaniKani for a few months now, and the spaced repetition feels spot on. The reviews always seem to pop up right when I’m just about to forget something, which can be annoying, but I guess that’s the whole point and it definitely works. I did miss a few days and came back to a big pile, but the site handled it fine and got me back on track. It’s simple, no fuss, and keeps me studying. That said, with the time I’ve put in and the occasional review buildup, I’d definitely appreciate some kind of credit or compensation if there’s ever a promo or account issue.

"Pretty good value if you keep up with it"
wanikani maybe isn’t the cheapest option out there, but for what it teaches, I’d say it feels worth it overall. I paid for the yearly plan and use it almost every day, so that probably helps justify the cost. The structure saves me a lot of time, and I haven’t really felt like I need extra kanji books. it seems like a good value if you can stick with it...

"My kanji reading has gotten a lot..."
My kanji reading has gotten a lot better. At first I kind of assumed it was just another app trying to make everything look easier than it really is, but after using it for a while, I noticed I was recognizing characters much faster and not getting stuck as much.

"Nice that it’s easy to pause"
I’ll admit I kind of assumed pausing would be a hassle, but it really wasn’t. That’s one of the things I like about WaniKani, the subscription doesn’t feel like you’re locked in forever. If I’m busy, I can just go monthly or pause and come back later. being able to do that so easily is a big reason I ended up returning.

"I’ve used a few kanji apps..."
I’ve used a few kanji apps. WaniKani is the first one where the mnemonics actually stuck.
Some are weird. Some are goofy. But that’s why I remember them. The stories pop back into my head later.
Not every one is perfect. Still, most help a lot. Kanji feels way less like random lines now.

"Good idea, but it didn’t really click for me"
I used wanikani for a few months, and it definitely helped me remember some kanji, so I wouldn’t say it was a waste. But for me, it felt a bit too slow and rigid. Some of the mnemonics were helpful, while others were just kind of weird and somehow harder to remember, haha. I also noticed that I’d recognize things on the site but then forget them when I saw them in actual Japanese reading. It’s not useless by any means, I just expected it to help more with real reading

"Pretty good support overall"
Support got back to me quickly, which I appreciated. It did take a little longer than I expected to actually get the issue fixed, kind of felt like it might’ve been overlooked at first, but they did sort it out in the end...

"Vocab that actually sticks with you"
I’ve been using WaniKani for a few months now, and the vocab coverage has been way better than I expected. It doesn’t feel like they’re just dumping random words on you either, most of the vocab connects back to the kanji you’ve already learned, which makes it a lot easier to remember.
There are definitely a few words that feel kind of random or not super useful day to day, but a surprising amount shows up when I’m reading manga or browsing Japanese websites. I’m still a little wary about relying on any company’s customer service if something ever goes wrong, because that’s usually where apps let you down, but the actual learning side has been really solid so far.
